| How to Help: Frequently Asked Questions |
How to Help FAQIs Children's Home Society of Missouri (CHS) a non-profit organization?Yes. CHS is exempt from federal income tax under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Our federal tax identification number is: 42-03652622. Where should I send my donation? If you would like to mail a donation, please send your check to: CHS Attn: Development You can also make a secure, on-line donation. Click here for a donation form. Will I receive a tax receipt when I make a donation?Yes, all donors receive written acknowledgement of their contribution which serves as an official tax record. Can I designate my contribution to a particular program at CHS?Unrestricted gifts are preferable as they enable us to best address our most pressing needs; however if you choose, you may designate your gift to a specific program area. If you are making your contribution online, be sure to indicate, in the comments field, where you would like your donation designated. Can I make a gift in honor or in memory of a friend or family member?Yes. Please include a note with your gift that tells us the name of the person being honored or remembered and the contact information for any friends or family you would like an acknowledgement card sent to. (For example: the honoree, their spouse or parent.) The amount of your contribution is never disclosed. You will receive a written acknowledgement of your contribution, which serves as an official tax record. Can I make a stock gift to CHS?Yes. Stock gifts are often the most economical way for supporters of CHS to make a charitable contribution. They make an immediate impact on the lives of the children we serve, while offering the donor tax benefits. What do I need to know to plan an event to raise money for CHS?We are excited to help you make your fundraising successful! Please contact us before you begin coordinating your event. We can work with you to help plan, provide materials about CHS or a speaker. Does CHS accept the donation of used toys?We do if the toys are being donated through our pick up program. Please see our Clothing Pick Up page on how to participate in that. However, all toys that are dropped off at the home specifically to be used by our children must be new. DVDs and books can be gently used, but should be in excellent condition. Avoid toys with small parts that can be removed, swallowed or inhaled or those with breakable or sharp edges. Please do not wrap your toy donations so we can inspect gifts for safety and age appropriateness. Does CHS accept donations of used furniture?Typically no. We do not have the transportation or manpower to pick up furniture. More importantly, due to the delicate health conditions of our children, any items accepted must be free of smoke, pet dander, dust---anything that could cause harm. However, in the past, we have been able to accept used office furniture and that has been a great contribution to our organization. How can I volunteer my time? All volunteers must first complete an application, orientation and background check. CHS depends on hundreds of volunteers to help one-on-one with our children, plan special events, help with administrative and general office support or offer professional services.
