How to Volunteer

We greatly value our volunteers and offer an application process to find the best fit for your time. Please review the steps you need to complete before beginning your volunteer experience at CHS.

• Attend a Trial Volunteer Experience.  See details below.
• Complete an application and provide three personal references.
• Volunteers must not have a criminal record that involves causing harm to children or any violent activity. A criminal record check is required prior to working with our children. A copy of your social security card will be needed for this process.
• Volunteers working directly with the children must have a medical examination report completed by a qualified medical professional. This form will be provided to you to give to your doctor.
• Volunteers seeking to be Guardian Angels need to go through the additional step of a one-on-one interview.

Volunteer Trial Experience

We ask all our volunteers to visit our home and engage in an activity with our children before moving forward with application process.  We strive to ensure that we are making the best match possible between our children and members of the community-- the trial experience allows the volunteer to get a glimpse of how they would participate in our organization and make sure it's a right fit.  We will talk with you about our services, discuss the children we serve and the important role volunteers play in the quality of life for our residents.

Volunteer Trial Experiences are held every week on Thursday evenings at 6pm.  They are staff directed activities that could range from making crafts to playing games to participating in a story night.  If you would like to attend a Thursday evening activity, please contact Catherine Lee, our Volunteer Coordinator at the information below.

Please bring your social security card with you for the criminal background check.
