Media KitChildren’s Home Society of Missouri (CHS) is a non-profit social services agency with a mission to improve the quality of life for children in need. Our founders were pioneers in the emerging field of child welfare and envisioned a society that would provide homes for neglected and abused children. We have provided safe, permanent and loving homes for children since 1891. AdoptionSince our inception, we have formed thousands of families through a continuum of adoption services. We provide extensive pregnancy counseling at no charge for women facing an unplanned pregnancy. Our staff provides assistance for families adopting domestically and internationally, as well as, intensive training and support for families able to adopt children presently in foster care. Education and CounselingCHS launched the first comprehensive post-adoption support program in the St. Louis area in April of 2007. In the first few months, we have supported over 80 families. We provide on-going education resources and counseling for children and parents throughout their journeys as adoptive families. Our goal is to provide the necessary knowledge, support and resources to families so they may continue the process of helping their children heal from past trauma, conquer the negative aspects of their earlier lives, or appreciate their role as members of a loving family. Developmental DisabilitiesIn the early 1980's, we extended our mission to provide short and long term care for children with developmental disabilities. Today, we provide two residential sites for children with significant disabilities, as well, as respite care for families. We provide a nurturing, home setting for children with significant disabilities from birth to twenty-one years of age, 24 hours a day, and seven days a week. Our children are non-ambulatory and may have a combination of disabilities including cerebral palsy, mental retardation, brain trauma and epilepsy.
